Malik releases final plan in vision, focused on education
Shammas Malik’s campaign for Mayor of Akron has released its Learning Together plan.
The plan is aimed at creating a fully supportive environment for Akron’s youth, according to Malik’s campaign website.
The plan outlines three key components: charting a path to universal pre-K; removing barriers and red tape for neighborhoods to fully utilize the city’s community learning centers; and leveraging local universities as engines of economic growth.
Malik noted that his plan for education is closely connected to the other three plans his campaign has released, around safety, the economy, and housing, health, and the environment.
“Many of the issues our city is facing with safety and opportunity are impacting kids in the classroom,” he said. “The areas highlighted in our plans will help our youth directly, but also are proven methods for reducing violence in the long-term, and for rebuilding our population and making sure our residents have opportunity here.”
Learning Together is the last of four plans Malik’s campaign has released as part of his vision for Akron’s future. In the coming weeks, the campaign also will be hosting community dialogue sessions, inviting community members to join in discussions about each of these issue areas before releasing final detailed plans in early spring.
